Songlist Descriptions

Baltimore Ave - This piece is from the March 2008 instalment of "Philadelphia, 2008" called "City of Arrivals" with my group Aerial Photograph. For this month, I talked to a lot of African business people in West Philadelphia on Baltimore Avenue about coming to the U.S. and the experiences they had.  The feel and melody of this song was influenced by music from the contries where these individuals had come from: Nigeria, Etheopia, Ghana, etc.

How Insensitive - This is me playing on the beautiful Bossa-Nova song by the great Antonio Carlos Jobim.  In addition to being a great composition, this song is also interesting because it is based off of Chopin's Prelude in E Minor, Op. 28.

Spider - This is also from the "Philadelphia, 2008" series from the month of April - "City of Youth".  On that month I talked to a group of children in West Philadelphia about growing up in Philadelphia and what they liked and disliked about the city.  It was a lot of fun. I re-arranged several children's songs for this month.  This is my take on "The Itsy Bitsy Spider".

Thumbkin - Also from "City of Youth". This is a rendition of "Where is Thumbkin" or as some call it "Frère Jacques".

Benediction - This is a simple piece I wrote for my Grandmother when she passed away while I was in college. An extended version of this can be found on Aerial Photograph's "Before the Stars Burn Out".

Song For Kate - This piece was written for my friend and older sister Kate. It can also be found on the "Before the Stars Burn Out" CD.
