Matt Davis is a guitarist, educator, arranger and composer based in the Philadelphia and New York areas. Hailed as “incredible” by the Philadelphia Daily News, and “eloquent” by Jazztimes Magazine, Matt’s original jazz ensemble, called “Aerial Photograph” has released three CD’s and performs regularly in and around the tri-state area. His performance abilities have been called “Inspired” by Downbeat Magazine and he is constantly in demand as a side man. In addition to Aerial Photograph, Matt has shared the stage with luminary musicians such as Odean Pope, The Silk Road Ensemble, Dick Oatts, Billy Harper, Dave Liebman, Paulina Oliveros, John Swana, Terrell Stafford, Mickey Roker, Jon Hollenbeck, and many others. He is a recipient of numerous awards and honors including grants from ASCAP, the American Composers Forum, The National Parks Service, and The Banff Center. As an educator, Matt has had the opportunity to share his passion for music with students of every possible age and background and currently serves as Senior Lecturer in Jazz guitar performance at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He has taught lessons and workshops in the New York and Philadelphia regions, Europe and Mexico and is currently working on material for a forthcoming book on how to practice various dynamics techniques for jazz musicians. Matt has recently received his Masters degree from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.
