Hailed as “Incredible” by the Philadelphia Daily News, the sound of Aerial Photograph is an amalgamation of jazz, classical, multi-cultural aesthetics, various ethnic musical traditions and popular music all performed with a strong emphasis on nuance and subtlety.

In addition to performing regularly in the tri-state area, Matt Davis’ Aerial Photograph has released two CD’s and has recently completed a year long residency in Philadelphia called “Philadelphia, 2008 . For this residency, the group’s leader and composer, Matt Davis, interviewed different populations of Philadelphia residents and wrote new music about them and their life experiences Then the entire ensemble rehearsed this music, recorded it, and performed it at a local music venue. Audio clips from the interviews are woven into each composition. Each month the recorded music was released as a hand-made, limited run album. Only 30 copies of each month were made. In January of 2008 the music was inspired by elderly people in Philadelphia - it was called “City of Age”; February was about people with drug addictions and drug recovery - “City of Addiction”; March explored the immigrant population in Philadelphia - “City of Arrivals”; April was all about children - “City of Youth”, etc. Other Philadelphia residents who were included in this project included war veterans, religious people, teachers, homeless people, victims of violence, incarcerated individuals, community volunteers and artists.
